Differences between Sermorelin and CJC-1295

Both Sermorelin and CJC-1295 are growth-releasing hormones. They differ in both their structure and function. In addition, they have different hand life which indicates that their long-term effect may vary.

What is Sermorelin?

Semorelin is a synthetic form of growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH), which is normally naturally produced by the hypothalamus in the brain.

GHRH is crucial for controlling the release of human growth hormone (hGG) from the pituitary gland into the bloodstream. This is essential for growth and development, particularly during childhood and adolescence. In addition to its importance in development, it also helps maintain healthy tissues and organs throughout life [1].

Sermorelin is used as a diagnostic and treatment molecule for poor growth in children (which is often due to hGG deficiency). According to some studies, it increases the growth rate in 74% of children after six months of daily injections [1]. Furthermore, it has been suggested to help adults with hGH deficiency and people with certain recurrent brain tumours [1, 2].

However, the use of sermorelin in healthy adults for anti-ageing or bodybuilding purposes is controversial as there is not enough research on it [1].

What is CJC-1295?

CJC-1295 is a drug stimulating the production of growth hormone (GH) in the pituitary gland.

In terms of its structure, CJC-1295 is a peptide-based drug designed with a functional maleimide-group (a chemical compound) at the C-terminus. This special functional group allows it to bind covalently with plasma proteins as serum albumin. Therefore CJC-1295 has a much longer half-life and stimulates the production of GH for more than 6 days after a single administration [3].

CJC-1295 is a long-acting molecule very similar to GHRH. It has been shown that CJC-1295 cause dose-dependent increases in mean plasma GH concentrations by 2 to 10 fold for 6 days or more and in IGF-I concentrations by 1.5- to 3-fold for 9-11 days after a single administration [4].

Although it shows potential benefits, CJC-1295 is considered a Prohibited Substance under Section S2 of the WADA Prohibited List due to its potential performance-enhancing effects [5].

What are the differences between Sermorelin and CJC 1295?

When comparing Sermorelin and CJC-1295, we need to consider both their similarities and differences.

Sermorelin and CJC-1295 are both molecules that can act as GRHR, but they have different properties in terms of structure and effects on the body.

While CJC-1295 had a long half-life due to a special covalent binding and therefore acting longer, after just a single administration, Sermorelin has to be administered daily in order to see effects.

CJC-1295 stimulates the production of GH for an extended period, Sermorelin have additional positive effects on systemic hemodynamics and fibrosis. In particular, it helps to reduce cardiac fibrosis, can mediate renal changes during pregnancy and even helps scar tissue formation in diverse pathogenesis [6].
